Tribute paid to journalists

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and Commander of Southern Command Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua have praised journalists for upholding professionalism.

Addressing a `Media Day` ceremony held here on Friday in connection with the sports festival, the chief minister said that a number of media personnel had fallen victim to terrorist attacks in the province, yet they were continuing to perform their professional duties.Mr Baloch said a tribunal would conduct an inquiry into the killing of journalists and added that his government was taking practical measures for the welfare and protection of journalists.

He said a committee under provincial Information Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal had been set up to solve problems being faced by media personnel and another committee, headed by Home Minister MirSarfaraz Bugti, would review arrangements for the safety and protection of journalists.

Lt Gen Janjua said efforts were under way to restore peace in Balochistan.
