SUKKUR: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has asked officials of the food and revenue departments to observe fairness and transparency in distributing gunny bags among growers and warned them of stern legal action if any complaints were received from growers.

He said that no slackness on the part of officials concerned would be tolerated.

They must redress growers` complaints so that the government could reap benefits of a bumper wheat harvest this year, he said.

He said at a meeting with officials of the two departments on distribution of gunnybags at the deputy commissioner`s office here on Monday that the government had imposed ban on growing paddy in the areas on the left bank of the river last year, which had contributed to a great extent to a rise in wheat production.

Sindh Minister for Food Syed Nasir Hussain Shah who also attended the meeting said the target of gunny bags for Sukkur had been raised over growers` demand, the officials, therefore, must fulfil their responsibility to ensure transparency in distribution of gunny bags.

If any official was reluctant to fulfill his responsibility then he should get himself transferred as the department would closely monitor the process of distribution, he said.
