Business remains partially suspended

LAHORE: Major business hubs, including wholesale and retail markets, observed a shutter-down strike on Monday to express grief over the Gulshan-i-lqbal Park attack.

Shahalam, Chemicals, Medicine, Plastic and Loha markets, Badami Bagh, Anarkali Bazaar, The Mall, Urdu Bazaar, Neela Gunbad Road, Brandreth Road, Mozang Market, Ferozepur Road markets, Akbari Mandi, Hafeez Centre and Saddar Market were among those that were closed.

Some markets observed a partial strike, while others, especially in the Defence Housing Authority and Gulberg, remained open.

All Pakistan Anjuman-i-Tajiran General Secretary (Khalid Pervaiz group) Abdur Razzaque Babar said a daylong shutterdown cost the business community around Rs2.5 billion. He said Lahore was the second biggest financial hub of the country and the impact of any terrorism activity have always lasted for a few days.

Representatives of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, All Pakistan Business Forum, PML-N Traders Wing, Pakistan Floor Mills Association and others condemned the suicide attack. They said the business community stood with families of the victims in these testing times.
