ISLAMABAD: As the controversy over non-disclosure of identity of delimitation committees’ members continues to simmer, former chairman of the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has lambasted the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for refusal to divulge exact composition of five delimitation committees.
The Senator said in a statement on Wednesday that no information could be withheld from Parliament by any ministry, division, department or organisation functioning under the Constitution.
“This is substantiated through the rules and parliamentary traditions.”
The refusal of ECP officials to provide the names of members of the committees involved in delimitation and the commission’s refusal to attend the meetings of the Parliamentary Committee on Delimitation were unacceptable, Mr Rabbani said.
The statement came a day after the convener of the parliamentary committee’s working group on delimitation Daniyal Aziz while alleging serious irregularities in delimitation insisted that the commission should have disclosed the names of the delimitation committees’ members.
