Arrest warrants for former cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz

2018-03-29
LAHORE: A sessions court has summoned former test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz through arrest warrants after he constantly failed to respond to notices issued to him on a Rs100 million defamation suit filed by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi.

Mr Sethi had filed the suit three years ago when he was PCB executive committee chairman. His counsel pleaded that Sarfraz Nawaz had been using derogatory remarks against the PCB and Mr Sethi. He said the PCB served legal notices on the defendant asking him to stop using abusive and derogatory remarks against the board and its officials following an apology. However, he said the defendant ignored the notices and continued his unethical utterances against the board and plaintiff in media.

In this case, the court also issued a stay order restraining the defendant from levelling false, malicious and defamatory allegations on the PCB and its chairman Najam Sethi. The court had also issued notices to Mr Nawaz, however, he failed to respond to them.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Anjum Mumtaz issued arrest warrants of the cricketer with a direction to appear before the court on next hearing. — Staff Reporter
