GPO crossing on The Mall reopens today

By Our Staff Reporter 2018-03-29
LAHORE: The General Post Office crossing on The Mall will be reopened for traffic today (Thursday) after a three months of closure while work on the other side (Supreme Court Registry, Nahbha road) would be completed by the weekend.

Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, chairman of the Orange Line Metro Project, said this on Wednesday at the weekly review meeting.

Hassan also asked the traffic police to update its plans accordingly because all roads along the route of the Orange Line Metro Project are also nearing completion.

Out of 13 kilometer road in package-I Dera Gujrran to Chauburji 11 kilometers have already been cleared and completed.

On the other side of the 13 kilometer stretch Chauburji to Ali Town the entire road has received the first layer of asphalt and the second layer is being laid, which should be complete within days clearing and restoring the entire route.

`The authorities had committed to opening The Mall within three months and they have done it with a few days to spare of deadline, says one of the LDA officials.

In the next few days, the entire 27-kilometer route would be opened for traffic. In the last three months, only those patches, which were stayed by the court, had to be cleared and the authorities moved quickly enough to repair and restore them within the set deadline. The only missing link right now is where the Water and Sanitation Agency is building the drain. Work on that drain and roads along it is being carried out.
