SU comes out of financial crunch, announces pay raise

DADU: The Sindh University has finally pulled out of financial crunch with the help of strict implementation of austerity measures, which has enabled it to raise salaries of teaching assistants by Rs5,000 and those of daily wage earning employees by Rs200 to provide them some relief amidunprecedented inflation.
The university`s vice chancellor, Prof (meritorious) Dr Mohammad Siddique Kalhoro, announced the raise amid a number of other decisions made at a joint meeting of deans of faculties, heads of academic departments and administrative officials at the cam-pus on Monday.
The VC said that the teaching assistants and the daily-wagers would receive the raise amount in their April salaries. The Rs200 increase in daily-wagers` pay would provide to give them some financial relief, he said.Dr Kalhoro said the university was witnessing visible improvements in its financial resources after strict adoption of austerity measures and its wherewithal was also getting better.
He said the policies of Higher Education Commi-ssion were being fully implemented and admissions toMPhil and PhD were being made under the HEC guidelines.
The meeting decided that only the candidates who secured at least 40pc score in the entry test and 10pc in the interview, a total of 50 score, would qualify for admission to MPhilin different disciplines. -Correspondent
