Remains of boy missing for a decade recovered

BAHAWALPUR: The Abbasnagar police claimed to have solved around a decade old case pertaining to mysterious `disappearance` of an 11-year-old boy, recovering the remains of his body from a pit in the house of a woman on Tuesday.

According to District Police Officer Syed Muhaammad Abbas, Shahid Iqbal (11) had gone missing mysteriously in 2013.

The boy`s father got registered an FIR (No.297/13), alleging abduction of his son under section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at the Abbasnagar police station.

The police interrogated several suspects but failed to find any clue to the boy and the case remained unsolved foraround a decade.

District police spokesperson Umar Saleem told Dawn that the DPO, while reviewing the old cases, took notice of the boy`s disappearance and directed the officials to launch a fresh probe into the matter.

The police officials, with the help of modern technology and after a thorough investigation traced a suspect, Mukhtaran Bibi, who during interrogation revealed thattheboy got`accidentally` shot by her son Rashid and died.

The woman said that fearing arrest of hi son, she dumped the boy`s body in her courtyard.

On identification by the woman, the police, after digging the floor of the house`s courtyard, recovered the remains of the boy`s body and sent it for an autopsy.

The police said that the woman`s son was absconding andyet tobe arrested.

Meanwhile, district police claimed today to have arrested within twenty-four hours as many as fifty `antisocial elements` under different charges, including bootlegging, illegal arms and gambling in the limits of Bahawalpur Saddar, Channigoth and Head Rajkan police stations of the district.

TWO DIE: A man and a woman died in separate incidents in Ahmedpur East tehsil and Lodhran district, respectively.

In the first incident, a motorcyclist, identified as Irshad (47) died, while pillion rider Abdul Salam suffered serious injuries when their bike was hit by a speeding car (JK-351) on Channigoth Road in the limits of Ahmedpur East police station.

Police claimed to have arrested the car driver.

In Lodhran, according to Rescue 1122 officials, a woman, Nusrat Bibi (28), was allegedly electrocuted when she touched a faulty electric water pump installed in a bathroom of her house at Basti Deewanwala near Peerwala.
