Police trace three suspects, arrest two for gang rape near M-4

TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad`s Sandalbar police claimed on Friday to have traced three men, arresting two of them, who gang-raped a married woman during a dacoity on Tuesday near M-4 motorway bridge on Jhang Road, some 11 kilometres away from Faisalabad.

Faisalabad Iqbal Division SP Abid Hussain told a press conference that complainant Adnan Masih was on way to his native village Chak 62-JB, Chanakayon, on Tuesday night, along with his wife, employed as a sweeper in a hostel of the University of Agriculture, when three men intercepted them.

He said the suspects tied Adnan to a tree with a rope and allegedly gang-raped his wife in a sugarcane field.

He said taking notice of the incident, City Police Officer (CPO) Sahibzada Bilal Umar formed different teams ofexpert policemen to trace and arrest the rapists.

He claimed that the police using geo-fencing technology traced one of the three suspects, who also belonged to Chak 62-JB and arrested him. The SP added that the victim has also identified the arrested suspect.

He claimed another suspect was arrested in the evening.

He said rape had been confirmed in the medical report of the woman and police were conductingraids to arrest the third suspect who has also been identified.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz appreciated Faisalabad police for tracing the suspects and arresting one of them in a short span of time.

In a statement, she said: `Incidents of rape against women are absolutely unacceptable.

She added that such incidents are shameful, adding that effective steps are indispensable to dispense justice in rape cases.

`We are taking all possiblesteps to protect women and children,` the CM said.

A handout said the CM herself kept monitoring the police operation until the arrest of the suspect.

She directed the authorities concerned to ensure that allthe suspects involved in the incident are arrested and strictly punished for their crime.

On the direction of the chief minister, IGP Dr Usman Anwar visited the house of the gangrape survivor at Maryamabad, a locality of Chak 62-JB, Chanakay.

The IGP met the woman and her husband and informed them that the suspects had been traced and arrested within hours of the incident.

He assured them that justice would be delivered and the culprits would be punished under the law.

ARRESTED: Roshanwala police claimed to have arrested a woman and a man allegedly involved in supplying narcotics to students in different educational institutions of Faisalabad.A police official told reporters on Friday that 16.670kg hashish and 7.690kg opium had been recovered from a woman Rani Bibi and her accomplice Ali Raza.

He added that raids are being conducted to arrest their accomplices.

LABOURERS INJURED: Four labourers were critically injured when the roof of a weaving unit caved in on ABC Cinema Road in Munirabad locality of Faisalabad on Friday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that the roof collapsed when solar panels were being installed on the building.

On being called to the scene, the rescuers removed the debris and rescued the injured labourers identified as Ghulam Mustafa (55), Ghulam Mustafa (46), Hassan (22) and Dawood Ahmad (32), who were shifted to Allied Hospital.

BUS LOOTED: Three robbers looted a bus that was going from Faisalabad to Sahiwal on Thursday night near Chak 448 GB, Lasharanwali, Samundri.As per police, the armed robbers, who were traveling by the same bus, forced the driver at gunpoint to take the bus to a deserted place where they snatched cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones and other valuables from the passengers and fled away.

Samundri Saddar police have so far failed to arrest the robbers.

BOY DIES: A 15-year old boy who was critically burnt in an LPG cylinder blast in his house on Wednesday in Mohalla Manyarian Wala in Shorkot Cantonment area, succumbed to his burns in Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, on Friday.

The deceased, Ahmad Muawiyah and his mother Perveen Bibi (50) had suffered serious burns when an LPG cylinder exploded in their house.

Perveen Bibi, wife of Muhammad Sharif, a sewing machine shop owner, had also succumbed to her burns in a private hospital in Lahore on Thursday.
