One killed, nine injured in two groups clash

BAHAWALPUR: A second-year student was killed and nine other people, including deceased`s father and two attackers, suffered serious injuries in an armed clash between two groups at Kondi Balochan in the limits of Lodhran city police station on Friday.

According to police sources, there was a dispute over a passage between two groups. On Friday, men of one group opened indiscriminate fire killing Waqas, a second-year student and the only brother of eight sisters. His father, Ranjha, and six others suffered serious injuries.

Two attackers, including a woman, were also injured in the clash.

According to Lodhran city police station SHO Muzamil Khan, the accused and the victims were relatives and Waqas`s two sisters were married in the accused`s family. Due to family disputes, both the sisters had returned to their father`s home about four days ago.

Police registered a murder case against the attackers but no arrest had been made till the filing of this report.

The body of Waqas was shifted to the Lodhran DHQ Hospital for a postmortem examination.

OUTLAW KILLED: Kabirwala police claim to have killed an outlaw, who had earlier killed a cattle-trader near Pull Mari Sahoo at Sidhnai Canal for resistance during a dacoity bid.

According to police, Nasir along with his unidentified accomplice allegedly snatched goatsfrom Qaswar Ali Hattar.

At this, the villagers along with Qaswar chased both the dacoits but they opened fire killing the trader.

On receipt of information, a police team rushed to the scene and during an exchange of fire, Nasir was killed in firing by his own fleeing accomplice.

Police registered a case against him and shifted the body to the THQ Hospital.

JAILED: The Jahania additional sessions judge awarded 20-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 to Augib who attempted to rape a woman in village 135/10-R and inflicted her injuries on resistance last year.

According to prosecution sources, the convict was sentenced under sections 376 and 449 of PPC to 10 years along with a fine of Rs50,000 in each of the offence.

ACCIDENT: A woman was killed while her husband and a minor son were injured when their car overturned near Mahmood Pul on Bahawalpur-Mult an Road on Friday.

According to Rescue 1122, the couple of Basti Malook was on way to Bahawalpur when their car overturned after its tie-rod broke. Nasim died on the spot while her husband, Aslam, and minor son suffered serious injuries and were shifted to hospital.

In the second accident, motorcyclist Nawaz Arian was killed when he was hit by a speedy truck near Sharif Shajra Pul.

His body was shifted to hospital while police registered a case against the fleeing driver.
