Over 200 inmates set free from different jails

PESHAWAR: Over 200 prisoners involved in petty nature offences were set free after their cases were disposed of during visits of respective district and sessions judges to prisons in their jurisdictions across the province.

The Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Syed Mohammad Attique Shah had on March 25 ordered all the district judges to visit prisons in their respective jurisdictions along with magistrates for disposal of petty cases ahead of Eidul Fitr.

According to a consolidated report released by the high court, 69 of the prisoners were released in Peshawar, 25 in Swabi, 16 in Mardan, 12 in Malakand, 11 in Dera Ismail Khan, 10 in Haripur, nine in Kohat, eight in Lower Dir, seven each in Tank and Abbottabad, six each in Swat and Upper Dir, five each in Nowshera, Lakki Marwat and Khyber, four each in Charsadda and Bannu, two in Hangu and one each in Mansehra, Torghar and Mohmand. — Bureau Report
