Man arrested for defrauding another of Rs3.7 million

ISLAMABAD: A fraudster was arrested for disguising himself as an official of SNGPL and taking Rs3.7 million from the management of a multi-storey shopping mall on the pretext of providing a gas connection.

Police sources said the chief executive officer (CEO) of a shopping mall approached the police and lodged a complaint against the impersonator who took Rs3.75 million in installments over one year.

The impersonator met the CEO and introduced himself as a seniorofficer in the SNGPL.

He offered to help the CEO in acquiring a gas connection for his shopping mall.

In response, the CEO prepared an application for the gas connection and gave it to the imposter. In his complaint to the police, he stated that the man demanded Rs50,000 as the first installment of the fee for the connection and this amount was paid through a cheque.

According to the complainant, cheques valuing Rs100,000 and Rs750,000 were given to the man, in addition to Rs1.5 million given in cash. However, no gas connection was given to the mall. On suspicion, the CEO approached the SNGPL and found out that the man was an impersonator. The CEO contacted the man and asked him to return the money. Initially, he agreed but later threatened the CEO with direconsequences.

In response to the complaint filed by the CEO the police arrested the impersonator and began further investigation to retrieve the money.

Similarly, another impersonator was arrested who disguised himself as the police and looted people.

Earlier, four men, dressed in police uniforms intercepted a man in G-9 Markaz as he was leaving a bank with cash. These fake policemen said they needed to frisk him and in the process stole his wallet and fled.

Later, the police arrested a man on suspicion who was later identified by the victim as one of the fake policemen. This man was taken into custody and the police are searching for his accomplices.

Ten other outlaws were arrested from various parts of the city and valuables and weapons found intheir possession were seized. The Aabpara police arrested a man for his involvement in theft and recovered mobile phones from him. The Shalimar police arrested five people and recovered a 30-bore pistol and four rifles and ammunition from their possession.

Industrial Area police arrested two people who disguised themselves as officials to mint money from people at the Excise and Taxation office. The police also arrested a man for his alleged involvement in robbery and recovered valuables worth thousands from his possession.

The Secretariat Police also arrested an alleged robber and recovered valuables worth thousands of rupees from him.

Meanwhile, the Ramana police arrested a man for his alleged involvement in robbery and recovered valuables from his possession.
