LAHORE: A security guard manning the US Consulate, Lahore, died of gunshot during duty hours on Tuesday.
Amjad Shah, 35, of Khushab, had been serving at the consulate for two years. He died of a gunshot in his chest. He was taken to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A senior police official told Dawn the mobile phone data of the guard was being analysed. Apparently, he was dejected over a failed affair, and committed suicide, the official said.
Deputy Inspector General Dr Haider Ashraf told Dawn it was premature to say that the guard committed suicide. He said investigations were under way to probe the incident.
