GCU debating championship concludes

LAHORE: The threeday 29th Parliamentary Style Debating Championship concluded at the Government College University (GCU) on Monday.

The championship brought together over 350 speakers from 60 leading educational institutions across the country, including Punjab University, UET, and LUMS.

The team trophies were clinched by the City School Capital Campus, Islamabad, and King Edward Medical University (KEMU).

Addressing the closing ceremony, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr.

Muhammad Omer Chaudhry congratulated the winners and emphasised the university`s commitment to promoting critical thinking and open dialogue; the qualities, he noted, are often overlooked but are vital for shapingfuture leaders.

In the English debates, the City School Capital Campus Islamabad won the Prof Dr Khalid Aftab Best Team Trophy, while in the Urdu debates, the Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah Best Team Trophy was awarded to the KEMU.

In the under-19 category, Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur, won the English team trophy, while Punjab University secured the Urdu team trophy.

In the individual category, Zoyan Faisal from the City School Capital Campus, Islamabad, bagged the Muhammad Ali Abbas Award for the Best Speaker in the English Open Category. In the English under-19 category, Aliza Ali from Superior Public School and Muhammad Usman Farooq from KEMU jointly received the Best Speaker title.

Abdul Rehman Basra from KEMU topped the Urdu open category.
