LAHORE, May 28: An elderly man who was picked by police for his relatives were wanted in a kidnap case, died in Liaqatabad police custody early on Monday.

The family lodged a protest outside the police station which led to the arrest of four policemen and registration of a case against them.

The family alleged police picked the old man without any justification and tortured him to death, but the police claimed that the victim died of a cardiac arrest.

Police said Sanaullah, 60, of Ghazi Road was picked by a police team led by SI Mahmood Shah from his residence on Sunday night in connection with the kidnapping of a girl.

Advocate Babar Shahzad had approached police that Rafaqat, of Sahiwal, had abducted his daughter a couple of days ago. Police raided the house of Sanaullah and took him into custody after failing to find suspect Rafaqat who lives with the victim.

Sana`s condition deteriorated during police interrogation and the police informed his son, Asif, about the situation. Asif and family members rushed to the police station, shifted Sanaullah to Ittefaq Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against SI Mahmood, constables Azhar and Muhammad Islam and driver constable Irfan who are now in police custody.

SHOT DEAD: Two young cousins were killed by a man on a domestic matter in the Shah Gaur Pir Shrine locality of Baghbanpura on Monday.

Police said suspect Imtiaz opened fire on Faisal, brother of his wife, and Faisal`s cousin Chand Butt and fled the scene. The victims had arrived at the house of Imtiaz after the latter`s wife called her brother after a quarrel.

Faisal succumbed to his wounds at Shalimar Hospital while Chand died at Services Hospital.

INJURED CHILD: The DIG operations on Monday night found an injured child on Canal Road in the Harbanspura area who was hit by a car and sent him to Shalimar Hospital in his escort car.
