LAHORE, May 28: The Jamaat-i-Islami leadership claims it has a team of experts which can overcome the ongoing energy crisis within six months besides reviving national institutions like PIA and Pakistan Steels Mills within a year.
This was stated by a team of JI experts led by Secretary General Liaquat Baloch and JI Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Chairman and former FBR chief Sarfraz Ahmed Khan while presenting budget proposals at a news conference held here at Lahore Press Club on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Liaquat Baloch said there had neither been increase in the GDP nor required investment in the country in the presence of the incumbent corrupt rulers.
`Corruption and the US dictation has inflicted incal-culable harm on the country`s integrity, solidarity and ruined its economy,` Baloch said, adding that due to the nation`s support and confidence, the JI could make the country stand on its feet within one year and restore its image in the comity of nations.
He said President Zardari`s participation in the Chicago Conference had only brought disgrace to the country, and added that the Difa-i-Pakistan Council would continue to oppose the restoration of the Nato supplies.
In his budget proposals, JI economic expert Sarfraz Ahmed Khan stressed the abolition of the budget allocations for MNAs and MPAs in the name of development and said the government should complete all development projects directly through the departments concerned.
He suggested imposition ofa ban on transfer of funds from one project to another or the other sector without Public Accounts Committee`s approval.
He called for starting coaland water-based electricity projects, urging the government to say `No` to any foreign loans.
Mr Khan underlined the need for an effective accountability system and confiscation of all property in case corruption was proved. He also suggested abolition of daily wages and contract systems, making all employees permanent. He stressed that at least 80 per cent of the income from electricity and gas should be spent on these departments.
He said the JI, if voted to power, would bring down the tax rate to the lowest so as to increase the number of taxpayers.
