Dengue under control: experts

LAHORE, May 28: Sri Lanl(an experts have said the dengue is completely under control and the present state of preparedness will help prevent outbreak of this virus in Punjab especially in Lahore even after monsoon.
Addressing a meeting held at a local hotel on Monday, the Sri Lankan experts said local doctors, health officials and dengue experts had sufficiently enhanced their knowledge and clinical experience during the last one year which would help eradicate the disease in near future.
Special assistant to chief minister on health Khwaja Salman Rafique, Health Secretary Arif Nadeem, HealthAdditional Ssecretary (Technical) Dr Anwar Janjua, Additional Director General Vector-Born Diseases Dr Jaffar Ilyas and CM`s Dengue Research Cell Incharge Prof Dr Waseem Akram were also present in the meeting.
Sri Lankan delegation, including Chief Entomologist Dr Paba, Clinical Management Expert Dr Weeraman and Dengue Epidemiologist Consultant Dr Tissera, arrived here on an invitation by the Punjab chief minister for providing technical assistance and training to the local doctors and epidemiologists.
The experts of both sides exchanged views on vector surveillance, larvicidingand arrangements for a public awareness campaign in the meeting.
Later, Sri Lankan experts visited the Directorate General Health and the Institute of Public Health where they discussed matters relating to training, capacity building of the staff and dengue surveillance and control plan.
During the four-day stay in Lahore, Sri Lankan experts will hold meetings with government officials, and visit different teaching hospitals of the city besides holding a meeting with the Dengue Expert Advisory Group for preparing a clinical management plan for the treatment of dengue patients.
