SINGAPORE: Mr Malcolm MacDonald, British Commissioner-General in South-East Asia, said today [May 25] that Pakistan was one of the new nations which was giving a splendid example of Asian democracy. It also occupied an increasingly important place in the modern world. Mr MacDonald said this at a party given by the SingaporeMuslimLeagueinhonourofChaudhri Nazir Ahmad Khan, Pakistan Minister for Industries, who is returning to Karachi after representing his country at the Commonwealth Consultative Conference in Sydney.
Chaudhri Nazir Ahmad Khan, replying, said Pakistan was founded by the Quaid-iAzam Mohammad Ali Jinnah not merely to serve Pakistanis but also to serve the cause of Islam and world peace. He said Pakistan would certainly side with those who were fighting for democracy. Pakistan, he said, had joined the Commonwealth without reservations and with the firm conviction that the future of the world lay in democracy.
