PESHAWAR: The Peshawar police and the CounterTerrorism Department on Tuesday killed an alleged robber during a joint action in the limits of Khazana police station here, a top official claimed.
Addressing a press conference at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, SSP operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi said that slain Yasir Sabit was the brother of notorious gangster Bilal Sabit, who was also killed along with an accomplice in a joint operation carried out by the Islamabad police and the Intelligence Bureau on Mond ay night.
He said that Bilal was involved in the murder of SHO Shapur police station of Peshawar Shakeel Khan, last month.
SSP Abbasi said that Yasir was planning to attack the police to revenge the killing of his brother.
He said that the suspect opened fire on police personnel when they raided his hideout to arrest him in Khurassan Camp area of the city.
SSP Abbasi said that the suspect was killed when police returned the fire. A policeman was struck by a bullet during the exchange of fire, he said. However, the cop escaped unhurt as he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
He said that Bilal was wanted to the federal, Punjab, Sindh and KP police in over 100 cases of heinous crimes.
He said that Yasir was his facilitator.
However, another police of ficial requesting anonymity told Dawn that Yasir used to run a crockery khoka (small roadside shop) in Islamabad`s G-11 area.
He said Yasir himself was not involved in car snatching and robbery incidents. However, he used to run the family aff airs as well as helped his brother.
