Jamaat workers rally against ECP in Dir

TIMERGARA: The workers of Jamaat-i-Islami staged a protest rally here on Monday against Election Commission of Pakistan for delaying the notification about the victory of their party`s candidate in the PK-95 by-election.

Led by JI district deputy general secretary Shafiullah and secretary information Malik Sher Bahadar, the protesters also blocked TimergaraChitral Road for some time.

They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with demands for issuance of notification about the results of by-election and against the ECP. The rally was addressed by Shafiullah, Sher Bahadar, district councillor Maulana Imran, Haji Daud Syed, Syed Sultanat Yar and others.

The speakers said that the people of PK-95 constituency had no representative in the provincial assembly. They said that the decision of ECP about PK-95 by-poll was tantamount to stealing the mandate of the people. They alleged that ECP had become partial in the case.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq inaugurated Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF)`s Mother and Child Care Centre in Zwal Baba area on Monday.

The 20-bed hospital has been constructed by the district chapter of AKF with the financial support of Jamiatul Islah, a Bahrain-based welfare organisation, at a cost of Rs25 million.

The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by AKF provincial president Noorul Haq, Provincial Minister for Finance Muzafar Said, JI district emir Izazul Mulk Afkari and AKF district president Fazal Mehmood.

KILLED: Two friends were killed and four others received injuries in a road accident in Kotkay area in the limits of Mayar police station on Monday.

Police said that two friends Pervez and Pervez were returning home from Mayar Bazaar when their motorcycle collided with two other motorcycles and a car in Kotkay. Both the friends were killed on the spot and four others sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were taken to tehsil headquarters hospital in Samar Bagh from where they were referred to Timergara in critical condition. Correspondent
