Rally against war hysteria

By Our Staff Reporter 2016-09-29
LAHORE: The Pakistan Civil Society Forum, Joint Action Committee for People’s Rights and Rawadari Tehreek jointly organised a peace rally outside the Lahore Press Club on Wednesday, condemning lingering threats of Pak-India war.

The aim of the rally was to inform both the governments that the citizens hated and rejected war between the two countries, says a press release issued here.

It said representatives from civil society organisations and journalists took part in the rally, carrying placards demanding peace. “We don’t want war, we want peace dialogue between Pakistan and India,” “We don’t want atom bombs, we want bread,” read some of the placards.

The participants emphasised that Pakistan and India should resolve their issues through dialogue because war would create more problems. And if they were so desirous of warfare, they should fight only against poverty.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Mr Mohammad Tahseen, convener of Pakistan Civil Society Forum, Mr Hussain Naqi from Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Mr Samson Salamat from Rawadari Tehreek.
