LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, PPP senior leader Syed Khurshid Shah has said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will himself lead protesting farmers if the government does not accept their demands.
`In case demands of farmers are not met, Bilawal will arrive here leading thousands of farmers` from Rahim Yar Khan,` Mr Shah said while addressing a farmers rally on The Mall on Wednesday.
The farmers are protesting against taxes on agriculture income and inputs, demanding support prices for their cash crops and ownership rights for tenants of state land.
Terming the PPP true representative of farmers, he said the farming community was repenting for not voting for the PPP which had always cared about their rights.
Referring to PM`s Kisan Package announced by the federal government a few months ago, he said the farmers were being hoodwinked and were being exploited through lowering of prices of the farm produce.
He lamented that PM Nawaz Sharif did not say anything about the Indus Water Treaty while his Indian counterpart was threatening to rescind it.
The PPP leader alleged the government was well aware of all methods of corruption but didn`t understand problems of farmers who were backbone of the national economy.
Meanwhile, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto, in his tweet, lamented at the treatment being meted out to the farming community in Punjab for protesting to seek their rights.
Referring to arrest of 600 farmers to stop them from holding a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly, he said the protesters must not be treated like terrorists.
`Sharifs won`t respect others democratic rights, they should stop hiding behind democracy to save themselves. Farmers not terrorists,` his Tweet reads.
