Security sought for diplomat, 20 others

ISLAMABAD: The Special Branch of Islamabad police has warned that 21 personalities, including a diplomat of a neighbouring country and some politicians, may be targeted by anti-state elements during Muharram.
In a report, the Special Branch stated: `Anti-state elements may target religious and political figures to spoil peace and fan sectarianism in the city.
Besides the envoy, other personalities include, an MNA, senator, a former legislator, Khateebs of different mosquesand other religious scholars.
A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said there was a need to enhance security of these personalities.
He said they were being approached by the police with a request to avoid unnecessary movements and public appearances.
They were also requested to inform the police station concerned before their movement in the city.
`Efforts are in progress to arrange security for these persons,` he said. Security personnel would be arranged to guard them, he added.
