As many as 26 new dengue patients arrived at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH), four at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and five at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Dr Javed Hayat, the head of the infectious diseases unit of the HFH, told Dawn that the serology reports received on Tuesday confirmed the virus in 26 patients.

`So far we have 104 patients at our isolation ward,` he added.

According to BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir, the dengue serology reports of four new patients were positive.

`The number of patients is increasing each day. We have arranged 10 more beds in the hospital to accommodate emergency cases. At present, the hospital has 54 patients,` he said.

`The DHQ hospital has 23 dengue patients in its isolation ward,` said a doctor at the dengue ward of the hospital.

Meanwhile, Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique held a meeting to review the anti-dengue measures.

It also reviewed the implementation of a micro-plan to overcome the disease.

Mr Rafique said the government would mobilise all available resources to combat the disease.

He said each and every aspect of dengue control had been kept in mind while implementing the dengue programmes in the province.

He said teams involved in elimination of mosquitoes and theirlarvae had been provided technicalassistance.

He appreciated the coordinated efforts of divisional and district administration, health and other allied departments in controlling the disease.

He said though decreasing temperature had minimised the arrival of dengue patients in hospitals, fumigation teams should not become complacent.

It was decided to undertake a comprehensive cleanliness drive in Rawalpindi.

The meeting noted that after 100 per cent fogging in the respective areas, there was constant downward trend of the dengue cases.

The anti-dengue teams were completing their tasks in line with the instructions of technical experts.

Later, the adviser visited the HFH, cantonment areas and the affected union councils.
