Paramedics, YDA resist privatisation

RAWALPINDI: Doctors, nurses and paramedics on Wednesday joined forces against the proposed privatisation of public sector hospitals.

The representatives of paramedics, nurses and doctors gathered at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital Library and decided to continue the protest against the provincial government’s proposed plan to privatize public hospitals.

Young Doctors Association (YDA) Rawalpindi had arranged a seminar and YDA Punjab President Dr. Muhammad Ajmal and others spoke on the occasion through video link from Lahore.

YDA Rawalpindi President Dr. Haider Akhter told Dawn that the YDA and paramedics decided to launch combined protests in different parts of the province from next week.

“In initial programme, the protest demonstrations will be held at Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. The mostly doctors wanted to start the protest demonstrations from Friday but due to the earthquake, it was decided to start from next week,” he said.
