`Reverberations of the soul` exhibited at Alhamra

LAHOR E: A degree show of visual arts ( 2011-15) titled `Reverberations of the soul` by the Lahore College for Women University`s Institute of Visual Arts and Design opened at Alhamra Art Gallery on Wednesday.

Students from affiliated institutes -Government College for Women, Gulberg, and Government Postgraduate College for Women, Samanabad, also exhibited their works.

US Consul General in Lahore Zachary Harkenrider was the chief guest while L CWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi was theguest of honour.

The degree show encompassed the thesis projects of students from visual arts department.

The artworks referred to the explorations, experimentation and research work done by students with their personal evaluation and analysis while creating a visual dialogue.

The artworks ranged from 2-D to 3-D installations, digital works and video art.

Twenty-five students, who put on display their works in the thesis show, hailed from LCWU and the rest were from affiliated colleges. Some 150 or so artworks were exhibited. There were paintings, miniatures, printmaking, calligraphy and ceramics.

It was a crowded exhibitionattended by a number of art fanciers, students, their families and friends.

The show had a lot to offer in terms of thought-provoking ideas, experimentation and exploration.

Hafiza Fatima Javed, a participating artist`s topic of the thesis titled `Chehray`, was interesting.

Ms Javed chose the category of elderly people because, according to the artist, the category could give her more room when it came to the expressions.

Using the medium graphite on canvas she magnified the faces of old people to enhance their facial expression.

Syeda Sana Fatima`s ink on Wasli works revolved around the fading impact of Urdu language and itsrich literature. She symbolically used `Nugta` taken from the Urdu language to create a question.

Kiran Shehzadi using the medium of soft pastels on canvas indicated mystery of historical places and how people got curious to know the history and people living in those eras. Her paintings titled `Free wheeling intelligence` was also suggestive of her worl<.

Sobia Tariq in her paintings showed a fine amalgamation of modern and old architecture.

Sehar Shafig`s oil on canvas artworks showed the struggle for their survival in life of psychological patients.

The exhibition will continue till Oct 31.
