GUJRAT: The bail plea of 33 suspects involved in the killing of a security guard in the boys campus of the Punjab Group of Colleges during attack by miscreants was rejected by a local court on Monday.

The suspects were arrested after the murder of guard Azhar Hussain on Oct 16.

They filed post-arrest bail application but Additional District and Sessions Judge Mian Javed Akram Baitu dismissed their plea.

The guard was allegedly killed by protesters who had stormed the Gurali campus of PGC against the alleged rape of a student in Lahore.

Gujrat Saddar police had registered a murder case against 35 nominated and at least 150 unidentified on the report of Zawahar Hussain, the son of the deceased.

At least 40 suspects arrested in different cases of violent protests at various campuses of the PGC across the district had been released on bail by local courts in Gujrat and Kharian whereas at least 100 suspects, mainly students, are still in Gujrat District Jail.
