2013-11-29
PESHAWAR, Nov 28: An informal meeting of the senior leaders of Awami National Party has reposed confidence in the leadership of Asfandyar Wali Khan.

The meeting was held at Wali Bagh, Charsadda with ANP acting president Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel in the chair.

The participants of the meeting said that the party was united under the leadership of Asfandyar.

Among others, the meeting was attended by members of ANP organising committee and members of the National and provincial assemblies and Senate.

They said that Asfandyar Wali Khan materialised what was dreamt by Baacha Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan by giving name to Pakhtuns and provincial autonomy in the shape of 18th Amendment.

They said that the conspiracy being hatched against the party would fail as workers would frustrate all such designs of the antiANP elements.

They expressed satisfaction over the membership drive and appealed to the members to fully participate in the process.

Addressing the meeting, Asfandyar Wali Khnan said that with the advent of 2014, the region was about to confront with a new situation as new complexities were being emerged with the passing of each day.

`Iran and six world powers have inked anagreement and the Loya Jirga of Afghanistan has taken some important decisions. The new government in Pakistan has to take decisions for the restoration of peace in the country keeping in view the changing scenario in the region,` he added. The ANP leader also spoke on the present government`s policy on terrorism, extremism and Nato supplies etc.

Why Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was lagging behind in holding local government elections despite the fact that it was the only province where local government law was passed by the previous assembly, Asfandyar questioned.

The provincial government that burdened heavily the provincial kitty by inducting an army of ministers, advisers and special assistant failed to deliver, the ANP leader alleged.

The morale of the security forces was waning due to lack of support by the provincial government, which was very alarming, Asfandyar said.

He demanded of the government to hold local bodies` elections in tribal areas on priority basis to remove sense of deprivation among the tribesmen.

Asfandyar also expressed concern over delay in recovery of ANP senior leader in Balochistan Arbab Abdul Zahir Kansi. He also demanded effective measures for restoration of peace in Balochistan. APP
