Man kills sisters CHARSADDA, Nov 28: A young man killed his two sisters and two sisters-in-law and injured four other family members in Inzar village in the jurisdiction of Khanmai police station here on Thursday.

Jaffar Shah of Inzar Kallay told Khanmai police that his 18-year-old son Shehryaz, who was mentally disturbed, entered the house and opened indiscriminate fire on the family members, leaving dead his two sisters identified as Gul Mina and Aisha and sisters-in-law Kulsoom, wife of Safdar, and Zulfan, wife of Rahmat Shah.

Four other members, including Mehnaz, Shabana, Zubair Khan and Mansoor, sustained injuries. The injured were referred to Peshawar in critical condition. The Khanmal police have started investigation after registering the case. Correspondent PUTA elects office-bearers PESHAWAR, Nov 28: Dr Fazal Nasir was elected president and Fayaz Ali Daudzai general secretary in the annual elections of Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) here on Thursday.

According to a PUTA statement, Friends Group and Azad Group contested the elections wherein Dr Nasir got 303 votes against Dr Waqar Ali`s 242 votes.

On the seat of general secretary Mr Daudzai secured 298 votes against Dr Mohammad Asim`s 249 votes. Other officebearers include Dr Mohammad Iqbal finance secretary, Dr Anoosh Khan joint secretary and Dr Basharat Hussain literary secretary.

The four elected executive members are Dr Jamshid Ali, Dr Shahida Zakir, Dr Zahir Mohammad and Dr Zakirullah Khan.

Dr Ghazala Nizam vice-president (female), Mohammad Hashim vice-president, Mohammad Zubair sports secretary, Bakht Zaman media secretary and Naghma Zaidi of the Friends Group were elected unopposed. -Bureau Report Counter-terrorism department PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The provincial government has renamed directorate of counter-terrorism (DCT) of police department as counter-terrorism department (CTD), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department in a statement said on Thursday that the CTD would have the mandate of intelligence collection, surveillance and monitoring, registration of terrorism cases, investigation of ATA cases, and arrest and detentions besides research and analysis.

The new department will have 2,350 employees, including one deputy inspector general of police, 12 superintendents of police, 153 inspectors, 289 sub-inspectors, 249 assistant sub-inspectors, 314 head constables, 1,170 constables and 119 drivers.

For operational purposes, seven CTD police stations would be functioning in the province, including one at CCP and one each at six regional headquarters level. -Bureau Report Declamation contest at UoM TIMERGARA, Nov 28: The Malakand Literary Club of the University of Malakand (UoM) arranged the first round of 16th Allama Iqbal Shield Debate Competition here on Thursday. The event was arranged for selection of UoM students for the second round of the contest to be held in Peshawar.

The topic for Urdu debate was `Nizam-e-Taaleem me Tarbiat aur Kirdarsazi` (Training and character-building in education system), while the topic for English contestants was `My vision of higher education in Pakistan`.

In English category, Mansoor Ahmed of Pharmacy Department got first, Mohammad Ibrarullah of English Department second and Mohammad Imran of Management Department third position. In Urdu category, Sahibzada Yaseen of Management Department secured first, Mohammad Arifullah of Sociology Department second and Sadam Hussain of Statistics Department third position.

The top two students from each category would go to Peshawar for the second round competitions on provincial level. -Correspondent Action against tinted glasses PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed the relevant officials to conduct crackdown on vehicles plying without number plates and with tinted glasses across the province to overcome crimes.

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department in a circular on Thursday asked all the deputy commissioners, district police officers and regional police officers in all the divisions to take action against all those violating traffic laws.

The officials have been asked that there is no need to succumb to any pressure from influential people, as in case of negligence strict disciplinary action would be taken against them. -Bureau Report
