Nadra

2016-11-29
PAKISTANIS generally have few good words about NADRA, and I, too, have little love lost for the authority. However, the events that befell me in the past few months have forced me to revisit the issue and now I have a bit of sympathy for Nadra.

In mid August, I submitted an application for a change of the residential address on my wife`s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). My spouse is an Indian national by birth. I was informed in the first week of September to visit Nadra`s Awami Markaz centre to complete the process.

During my visit, I was handed a list of documents to be produced, duly attested by a grade-17 officer to complete the process. This directive seemed frivolous as I had already provided the necessary documents on many an occasion right from her naturalization process to the making of her NIC and CNIC.The matter seemed in a deadlock till I decided to write about my quandary to Dawn. Lo and behold, better sense prevailed thereafter. The assistant director Zone-I of Nadra`s Awami Markaz rang me up and told me that the higher authorities had directed him to expedite the process.

He asked me to visit the office. My issue was resolved amicably.

I appreciate Nadra for helping a senior citizen and also request the concerned authorities to make the documentation process easier for the common citizen.
