PARACHINAR: Elders and parents have opposed the closure of a girls college in Parachinar area of Kurram Agency and demanded the intervention of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor.
They told reporters here on Monday that the Fata directorate of education had established the Girls College No 2in Parachinar as the Degree College for Women was overcrowded.
Accompanied by local elders, Parents Committee chairman Haji Sher Mohammad said the Degree College for Women couldn`t bear the load of students and therefore, classes were being arranged in verandah.
He said the Fata education directorate constructed another building on the suburbs of the town on the recommendationofKurramAgency`s political administration.
The committee chairman said classes began in the new building and that around 300 students had been enrolled in the Girls College No 2.
He said the shortage of teachers in the new college were adversely affecting the career of students.
Mr. Haji Sher alleged that some vested interests were also trying to close the new college and shift some 300 students from Girls College No 2 to the Degree College for Women.
He appealed to Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and senior officersoftheCivilSecretariat Fata to provide teachers to the newlyestablished college to protect the future of students.
