PTI to raise early poll demand in PA session

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-11-29
LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided to stick to its demand for early polls and raise the issue when the Punjab Assembly proceedings will resume on Dec 4.

`We won`t budge even an inch from our stance of giving the PML-N government any more time and will work on holding the generalelection before its schedule time and as early as possible, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mahmoodur Rashid says.

The issue, he says, will be vigorously raised from the platform of the Punjab Assembly and other parliamentary parties are being approached for framing a joint strategy in this respect.

He says a meeting of the PTI parliamentary party has already been convened for next week to discuss a strategy for giving tough time to the government.

He was talking to a group of reporters here on Tuesday.

Answering a question, he said the call for early elections was well within the constitutional confines as two other major parties, the PML-N and PPP, had in the past demanded mid-term polls so there was no harm in raising the same demand when the government seemed to be failing in running state affairs effectively.

He told a questioner that the PTI was readyfor contesting the polls whenever it was announced. He said so far no decision had been taken [on] whether to contest the election independently or in alliance with other like-minded parties.
