Lesco up against cable TV wires, posters on poles

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has warned cable network operators, the Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) and other stakeholders to remove their cables, wires, boasters, banners and other material from electricity poles in three days (by Nov 30), as their wires and gadgets were causing power distribution problems besides posing threats to the lives of citizens and field employees.Lesco also announced an operation to remove such material soon after the deadline.
`Under the Safe the City from Electric Hazards Programme, we have initially selected 36 roads in Lahore,` an official said.
On these roads there were 500 points where cables and boasters of cable networks and the PTCL have been tied with electricity poles.
Similarly, many schools, fast food outlets and other commercial ventures also display their banners, flexes etc on poles.
The official said of total 500points, the Lesco officials had already attended 200 points.
The official said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also directed the Lesco administration in a meeting on Monday to clean the city from hanging wires, cables, posters, banners etc within one month.
`Lesco is also considering to cancel all sorts of agreements it made with cable networks, companies etc,` the official said.

In a meeting presided over by Planning and Development Department Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, the participants approved construction of Dadhocha Dam, Rawalpindi (revised) for Rs6.1375 billion, rehabilitation and upgrade of Fakhar Flood Bund in Rajanpur for Rs636.56 million, rehabilitation and upgrade of the River Training Works of Balloki Head Works, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib for Rs1.303 billion and Chief Minister`s Stunting Reduction Programme for Rs8.993 billion.
