2015-12-29
SUKKUR: Employees of the District Council of Sukkur on Monday staged a demonstration and held a sit-in in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in protest against non-payment of their 17-month salaries.

The protest was led by leaders of the Employees Association District Council Sukkur, including Abdul Majeed Jiskani, Tariq Solangi, Abdul Shakoor and Sadaqat Ali .

Speaking to the protesters, they said 360 employees of the council had been deprived of their 17-month salaries and their family members were facing a situation like starvation. But the district administration paid no heed to their problems, they said.

They claimed that Rs11.2 million was available in the bank account of the Sukkur District Council through which two month’s salaries of 360 employees could be paid, but due to the carelessness of the administration, employees remained empty-handed.

The DC was not present in his office. ADC-II Muhammad Ayub Chachar persuaded the protesters to end the sit-in and assured them of payment from the amount in the bank account.
