Poultry farming initiative to help reduce poverty: official

KOHAT: The provincial poultry project in-charge, livestock programme, Dr Aftab Ahmed inaugurated the scheme of `one rooster and hve hens` at a function held at the animal husbandry hospital, Kohat, on Saturday.

The event was attended by district livestock director, Kohat, Dr Shahwar Anwar, Dr Mohammad Sohail of Hangu, focal person Dr Asif Junaid and other officials.

On this occasion, hundreds of hens and roosters were distributed among the registered families who had deposited a fee of Rs1,050.

Dr Ahmed said that protein was an important requirementfor the growth of human body, but due to poverty people could not get it.

He also said that the programme of poultry farming would help in reducing poverty because the hens would grow by dozens each year. The people would also get eggs at reasonable rates.

He called upon the people to feed the hens well so that they could lay more eggs and grow fast. He stressed that vaccination was a must for the poultry to avoid diseases and deaths.

HASHISH SEIZED: Ustarzai police seized over eight kilogrammes of hashish being smuggled from Orakzai tribal district to other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and arrested an alleged smuggler on Sipah Road on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off by the district intelligence force, Ustarzai police SHO deputed a team on the difficult terrain between Kohat and Orakzai district.

They spotted a man who wasasked to stop, but he instead started running.

However, he was overpowered after a chase.

The police recovered over eight kilogrammes of hashish from Mirjan Ali Orazkai, a resident of Mitha Khan.

According to police, a 30-bore pistol with cartridges was also recovered from his possession.

An FIR has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, the police finalised security arrangements by deputing extra teams in bazaars and wardens on roads to thwart lawlessness on the New Year eye.

Chairing a meeting, district police of ficer Mansoor Aman constituted several teams for the purpose. He asked the circle DSPs and SHOs to ensure security of bazaars and deployed 50 wardens for maintaining traffic flow. He asked them to strictly check fireworks and firing in the air.

WORKSHOP: PakistanWorkers Federation national coordinator Shaukat Ali Anjum on Saturday stressed that the workers should compel the employers for their registration with Employees` Old-Age Benefits Institution and issuance of insurance cards which was guaranteed under the Constitution.

Speaking at an awareness workshop at Kohat Press Club here, he regretted that hundreds of thousands of employees in the private sector were being deceived by the employers.

The workshop was attended by master trainers Haji Sohail, Bashir Bacha and Khalid Hameed, members of workers unions and employees of the departments and f actories.

The master trainers said that it was must for the employers to pay five per cent of the salary to EOBI and deduct one per cent from the wage so that the workers could get insurance and pension benefits for themselves and their dependents in case of death.
