More rains, snow expected today

ISLAMABAD: The temperature in the capital fell to 0°C on Tuesday and another rain spell and more snowfall is expected on Wednesday.

The Met Office has said a westerly wave is entering the western parts of the country Tuesday night and is likely to grip different parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday.

Under the influence of this weather system, widespread rain and thunderstorms with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan.

Heavy rainfall is expected in some places in upper Punjab including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, and Faisalabad divisions, Islamabad, GilgitBaltistan and Kashmir.

Snowfall is expected in the Malakand division, Swat, Chitral, Kalam, Malamjabba and upper Dir, Hazara division, Murree, the galiyat, Kashmir and GB during the same period.

The Met Office has warned that moderate to heavy rainfall can trigger landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, GB and Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday. It suggested the relevant authorities remain alert these two days.

Rain and thunderstorms are also expected at scattered placed in lower KP including Bannu, D.I Khan divisions and south Punjab including Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G Khan and Sahiwal during the two days.

Rain, thunderstorms and snowfall is expected over the hills at scattered placed in Balochistan including Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Makran, Naseerabad and Sibbi divisions and in Sindh including in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions on Wednesday.

The lowest temperature in the country on the night between Monday and Tuesday was -20°C in Skardu, -16°C in Astore, -15°C in Bagrot, -14°C in Kalam, -12°C in Gupis, -8°C in Hunza, -6°C in Malamjabba, -5°C in Dir, Drosh, Parachinar and Rawalakot, -4°C in Quetta, -3°C in Mirkhani and Kalat, -2°C in Murree, Chitral, Bunji Chilas and Kakul and -1°C in Gilgit, Muzaffarabad and Garidupatta.
