Mirpurkhas youths launch campaign for university

MIRPURKHAS: Speakers at a convention held here to demand establishment of a university at Mirpurkhas have alleged that the Sindh government has kept the area deprived of higher education institutes because most of its residents suppon opposition panies.

Establishment of a university there was an old demand of thousands of girl and boy students as they had been travelling long distances and bearing huge expenses to attend universities in other areas, they said while addressing a forum established by the youth of Mirpurkhas to muster suppon for their demand.

Campaign convener Mohammad Nasir Iqbal said parents of students there suffered great hardships to send their children to Sindh University Jamshoro.

He asked why Mirpurkhas had been kept deprived of a university and higher educational institutions whereas such facilities were available in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur and other upper Sindh areas.

He demanded the Sindh government establish a university there without any delay.

Social worker Malak Raja Abdul Haq said he had offered his personal land for establishment of Mirpurkhas university in the past, but the government had neither accepted his offer nor fulfilled the demand of the people of Mirpurkhas division.

Appreciating the campaign, Government S.A.L Science College Mirpurkhas Principal Ausaf Ahmed said his college had to suffer a lot due to heavy burden of students each year and more science colleges were needed to share the burden.

The convention was attended by hundreds of political, social and religious activists and traders, lawyers, doctors, journalists etc.
