KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday called for coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to implement the SHC`s directives.

He told Dawn that the traffic police had been directed to take action against beggars, though their primarily function is to ensure smooth flow of traffic and make commuters follow its regulations.

He said an effective action would require coordination of all stakeholders.

Presently, he said, police take action against beggars under the anti-vagrancy law of 1958, under which the offence of beggary is bailable and the courts only impose a meagre fine because of which the beggars resurface on roads. -By Imtiaz Ali
