LAHORE: Pakistan Civil Society Forum (PCSF) is concerned about the way the US government has stopped development aid (USAID) to developing countries, including Pakistan, as the abrupt suspension of the development aid has caused anguish, uncertainty and stress to several hundreds of development workers associated with projects and millions of poor people who benefitted under different US-Aid funding arrangements.
In a statement, the Pakistan Civil Society Forum says this decision indicates a colonial mindset within the US administration and their insensitive attitude towards their commitments to contribute to the development of the societies that they exploited or destroye d through their decades of economic and security suppression.
The forum also believes that by suspending aid to development programmes supporting neglected and marginalised sections in these countries, the most affected, will further aggravate the ill-conditions they suffer and in most cases will reverse the change process.
It also increases unemployment in development agencies, projects and organisations who were receiving such aid from US government.
Thousands of programmes are abruptly halted and without any hope and chances to continue in future.
This is a sarcastic and treacherous act from US government. Ironically the American administration doesn`t feel remorse on such one-sided stringent action.
Pakistan Civil Society Forum and its members protest on this action and demand the US government review its decision and fulfill its international commitments to development aid under the UN charters and agenda 2030.
The situation demands that Pakistan`s civil society unite against this inhuman process and announce its strategy to respond to this decision as soon as possible.
