THIS is with reference to the letter `Pakistan Railways should do better` (Feb 17) which raised doubts about the capacity of the railway officers. I had appeared in Central Superior Services (CSS) examination in 1982 and had opted for Pakistan Railways, retiring in 2012 as an additional general manager (traffic).
It is my considered opinion that officers can serve the organisationbetterif their efforts are not compromised by the raw ministers and bullying politicians who exploit a system stated to be state-owned.
Pakistan Railways lacks ownership like any public service organisation. I have authored two books, taking stock of all the bottlenecks and suggesting the way forward.
They have been much appreciated by the relevant quarters. All that needs to be done now is for someone to implement the proposals in the right earnest.
