SAHIWAL: Two persons were killed and one was critically injured by a gunman on Pakpattan Road near Dera Rahim police on Tuesday.

The gunman opened fire when several villagers rushed to the scene after getting to learn that he was looting people. Seeing people, the robber, later identified as Ali Shehzad, opened fire.

The people, however, captured him and handed him over to the Dera Rahim police after beating him.

Reports said Muhammad Yousaf was intercepted by the gunman, who snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone and cash. Yousaf raised alarm and soon several people gathered at the site and gheraoed him. The gunman`s fire hit Waseem, Zahoor and Muhammad Rafiq, all residents of 99/9-L. Of them, Rafiq died instantly, Zahoor died on his way to the hospital, and Waseem was being treated for his lifethreatening injuries.

Station House Officer Amir told Dawn the gun-man was a resident of village 96/9-L. Two murder FIRs had been registered against Ali.

ACCIDENT: A man and his sister died in a road accident near Pakpattan city.

Bashir Ahmed, 70, and his sister Sardar Bibi, 65, were riding a motorcycle when the motorcycle collided with a truck near Faridpur Dogarain. They both died at the spot. Rescue 1122 shifted bodies to the DHQ teaching hospital.

OBITUARY: Mufti Nazir Ahmed, Jamaat-iIslami leader, breathed his last on Wednesday.

He was 90.

His funeral prayers were led by JI emir SirajulHaq.
