RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) cancelled the vacations of the operational staff to ensure smooth supply of water during Eidul Fitr.
Wasa spokesman UmerFarooq told Dawn that the city was divided in four zones and complaint cells formed to provide water to the residential areas without any hurdle. Staff had been deputed in the com-plaint cells round the clock in two shifts.
He said Wasa Managing Director Saleem Ashraf asked the staff to pay attention in and around the mosques wheresewer blockage was found. He said that the mosques and E i d g a h s areas would be cleaned before Eid prayers.
He said the operations of tubewells should be closely monitored and round the clock serv i c e e n s u r e d, adding thatcomplaints should be attended promptly. He said the lorry and fire hydrants must be fully functional to meet the water demand in case of emergency.
He said water bowsers should be kept in ready conditions to meet water requirements in water shortage areas and all deputy directors should personally ensure immediate redressal of complaints of tubewells, water supply and sewerage system.
Umer Farooq said no water complaints would be left unattended during Eid days and that no negligence would be tolerated and action taken against those tubewell operators who failed to report the faulty machinery before Eidul Fitr.
He said the basic aim of the plan was to ensure water supply and end sewer blockage in the city areas. He said the government wanted to provide maximum facilities to people during the festival. Staff Reporter
