Three held for stealing iron sheets from bridge pillars

LAHORE: Muzaffargarh police on Saturday arrestedthree suspects involved in cutting steel rods from the pillars of Head Muhammadwala bridge over the Chenab river near Multan.

A Sadar Police Station team arrested three suspects involved in stealing steel sheets from the pillars of the bridge.

The suspects were using gas cutters and gas cylinders to cut the steel coverings of the pillars.

According to the police, the suspects were trying to weaken the bridge by cutting steel rods from the main pillars through gas cutters.The suspects had removed the strong foundations of the pillars and were trying to weaken the bridge which is a national asset.

Police also recovered gas cutters, steel rods worth millions.

The Head Muhammedwala Bridge, built over Chenab, connectedMultanwithMuzaffargarh and Jhang Road.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Rizwan Ahmed Khan said that timely action had resulted in saving the national asset.

He said that the inspection through engineers should alsobe conducted to check any damage done to the bridge. He announced a commendatory certificate for the police team involved in arrestingthe thieves.
