PEKING: China declared today [April 29] it would not recognise India`s illegal annexation of the strategic Himalayan kingdom of Sikkim. The Indian Parliament last Saturday [April 26] gave its final approval to Government legislation making Sikkim a part of India, and the merger is expected to be formalised shortly. A Chinese statement said India has swallowed up Sikkim, sent Indian troops to disband the monarch`s guard and then [conducted] a farce of a so-called referendum requesting that the country become a part of India. The statement appeared to be a stronger worded repetition of official Press attacks over events in Sikkim, which borders Chinese-ruled Tibet. The Press note said: In keeping with its primary objective the committee deliberated over the factors responsible for disturbing the peaceful and harmonious relations between the Muslim communities. The speakers put forward various suggestions for achieving greater understanding.
