2023-05-30
(EDITORIAL) The West Punjab Ministerial crisis which had been brewing for some time past has now culminated in the defection of two Ministers, Mian Mumtaz Daultana and Mr Shaukat Hyat Khan, from the Cabinet headed by Khan Iftikhar Hussain Khan Mamdot. Reports about the existence of serious rifts between the Ministers had in recent weeks found their way into the Press.

... The Quaid-e-Azam`s greatest stress in recent months had been on unity and solidarity. In democracy, however, differences of opinion are bound to arise. But the strength of democracy lies in the spirit of compromise, which while allowing for differences does not jeopardise national solidarity. [W]e fail to see ... any unbridgeable ideological differences between them. Mr Daultana ... focusses his criticism on the absence of an integrated policy ... and the existence of corruption and nepotism. ... Mr Shaukat Hyat Khan has his own charges to make against the Ministry... .

... The Quaid-i-Azam has on several occasions said that our Governments should exist forourpeople andtheirconstanteareshould be to end poverty, ignorance and ill-health existing among the masses.
