TEHERAN: Newspaper Teheran Mossavar said [recently] that the Soviet forces occupied [a] 5 mile-strip of Iranian border province of Khorasan and refused to withdraw despite Iranian protests. The paper said the alleged Soviet infiltration took place near the town of Sarkhan, [the] easternmost point in Khorasan where this province forms a bulge into [the] Soviet Turkomen Republic.
The border there is formed by dry river beds andis[a]frequentscene ofdisputes.
Teheran Mossavar said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry protested to the Soviet Embassy here that Soviet action was unauthorised and demanded that troops be withdrawn. The newspaper said that the Russian forces were still there. It did not give the date of [the] alleged infiltration.
