Trailer for web series Shamsher launched

KARACHI: The trailer for a six-episode web series based on Pakistan`s national sport field hockey titled Shamsher was launched at a local hotel on Wednesday evening.

The series will be presented on the streaming service Tapmad from June 13.

Two sets of speakers appeared on stage at the event.

The first comprised former and current hockey players. They were Qamar Ibrahim, Sameer Qureshi and Ammad Butt. Mr Ibrahim said it was for the first time that such an event for hockey was being held. `The web series will help start the revival of hockey in the country.

Mr Qureshi talked about the time when he first saw Mr Qamar play against Germany in 1992. In 1998, he (Qureshi) joined the hockey team.

Mr Butt said it required a lot of hard work and sacrifice in the field of hockey.

The second set of guests included the actors, producer and director of Shamsher. Actor Farhan Saeed, who is playing the male lead in the series, said he hoped that his character would inspire the youth of the country to play hockey.

`When Nina (the producer of the show) called me to talk about Shamsher, that`s the time I decided that I`mgoing to do it... Such roles come your way rarely.

Actress Hareem Farooq admitted that she was not aware how many milestones Pakistan had achieved in hockey. `For me it was quite enlightening and [therefore] to bring attention to [hockey] it is really important. It is something we need to be proud of.

Actor Behroz Sabzwari said we watch streaming services such as Netflix; so he`ll be happy if Pakistani dramas are run on Tapmad.

He went down memory lane to tell the media that he had spent time with hockey players Islahuddin, Kaleemullah and Hasan Sardar. `I can`t express how we used to feel when our hockey teams would return home after winning tournaments.

Actor Umar Alam spoke about the hard work he had to put in for the role he`s essaying in the series because hockey is a difficult sport to play.

Producer of the show Nina Kashif said she wanted to do something sport-related and hockey was in consideration. When she researched on the game, she realised Pakistan had accomplished a lot in the sport that the younger generation doesn`t know about.

Director of Shamsher Shehrazade Sheikh said the project was special for her. `When I heard that Farhan Saeed is in it, my heart skipped a beat.` -By Peerzada Salman
