GUJRAT: Two suspects who were allegedly involved in shooting at and injuring a police constable were killed in the `firing by their accomplices during an encounter` with a team of the Crime Control Department (CCD).

A spokesman for the CCD says a Constable, Muhammad Awais, posted at Tanda police station had been shot at and injured by some unidentified armed men. He was shifted to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH).

The CCD police lodged a case against the unidenti-fied suspects and started investigation.

According to the CCD, during a search operation on Saturday, some unidentified armed men opened fire on the police. The police returned the fire.

When the firing from the criminals` side stopped, the police searched the area, finding bodies of two men, who were later identified as Sajjad Ali and Farooq Hussain, both allegedly involved in robberies and drug dealing.

The CCD claimed the suspects were killed in the firing by their own accomplices who fled away.

A case has been registered against the fleeing suspects.
