PFA seals four outlets

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) teams on Wednesday sealed four food outlets and imposed ñne on anotherfourforlack of cleanliness.

According to officials, PFA Director Ayesha Mumtaz led a team which sealed Costare Bakery and Sweets in Iqbal Town`s Kareem Block after it found expired juices and cakes besides abundance of flies and cockroaches in bread and cake baking sections.

Raw material was kept in blue drums, the freezers were extremely dirty, there was no labeling on butter and sweets and the overall condition of the premises was unhygienic.

The team also sealed Chaman Ice Cream at the same place after it found fungus growth in freezers which were broken. There was no manufacturing date mentioned on packed ice creams.

Headed by Gulberg Town Food Safety Officer Farah Athar, a team sealed Shafique Haleem House on Allama Iqbal Road near Garhi Shahu for seven days for storing edibles in dirty freezers, and Golden Chicks and Fri Chicks for two days for poor hygiene.

The team also fined Chocolate Café in Gulberg and Gourmet Bakery on Model Town Link Road for unhygienic conditions.

Another team of PFA Data Ganj Bakhsh Town sealed city boys hostel canteen due to unhygienic conditions and storage of leftover food in freezer. The hostel administration could not produce medical fitness certificates of workers.

The team imposed fine on PIA canteen on Egerton Road.

In Ravi Town, a PFA team imposed fine on Huq Naan Shop and Hotel, Shahdara Town, due to lack of personal hygiene of employees who had no medical fitness certificate, uncovered food items and flies in dough.

The team also fined Al-Madina Hotel, Maqbara Mor, for the same reasons.
