More than 100 booked for `aerial firing` in police station

TOBA TEK SINGH: More than 100 people were booked on Tuesday under the AntiTerrorism Act for allegedly firing in and outside the Khurrianwala police station in Faisalabad.
Complainant Sub-Inspector Imtiaz Ali alleged in his FIR that Muhammad Ahmad and Yasir groups of Chak 266-RB came to the police station to record statements in an attempt to murder case.
He said members of the groups, with more than 50 from each party, clashed outside the police station and stormed in while resorting to aerial firing.
He alleged that they also damaged the building, windows, furniture and doors of the police station.He said the firing spread fear and panic in the area and shopkeepers shut down their shops and ran away.
The police took a car and guns into custody and raids were being conducted to arrest the 30 nominated and more than 70 unidentified people from both groups.
ENCOUNTER: A member of the Ghulfam Shah gang was killed and a police constable was injured in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) near Chak 78-JB, Khaddian Warraichan, Faisalabad, on Tuesday.
The police claimed that a CCD team was taking Imran Ghafoor alias Mani Bajwa for recovery of stolen items when the police van`s tyre punctured near Chak 78-JB.
Police said that five suspectson two motorcycles, who were following the van, opened fire on the policemen to allegedly free Bajwa.
Police claimed that the exchange of firing continued for half an hour, which left Bajwa and cop Muhammad Faisal injured. Both the injured were shifted to the Allied Hospital but Bajwa allegedly succumbed to his injuries.
Police said that he was wanted in four murder and 20 robbery cases and was also a notorious shooter and extortionist.
NOTICE ISSUED: The Jhang district commissioner has been issued a notice on Tuesday for the three-year delay in issuance of pension of a retired naib tehsildar`s widow by Punjab Ombudsperson District Adviser Chaudhry Almas.
Mussarat Bibi, in her petitionto the Punjab Ombudsperson, claimed that her late husband Naib Tehsildar Ghulam Qadir had submitted his pension case to the relevant authorities.
However, she said that his case was not approved until his death in 2022. She said that afterwards, she repeatedly approached relevant offices to claim her lawful family pension. She said that even after the passage of three years, her pension was yet to be released.
The Jhang district advisor issued a notice to the DC, directing him to submit a report until August 6.
Meanwhile, the DC has sought an explanation from the concerned staff about the pendency of the case.
MURDER: A man allegedly murdered a divorced woman in Gojra Chak 298-JB on Tuesday.
The Gojra City police saidaccused Babar Ali, a rickshaw driver of Chak 312 JB, wanted to marry Nafeesa Bibi (40) but she had rejected his proposal.
Police claimed the accused forced his entry into her house on Tuesday and shot her. She was rushed to the Gojra THQ hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, a married woman was kidnapped in Gojra Chak 332 JB on Tuesday.
Complainant Amjad Ali, in his FIR registered by the Nawan Lahore police, claimed that his sister Tanzeela Bibi was alone in her home when accused Bilal of the same village abducted her with the help of his accomplices on gunpoint.
Separately, the Gojra City police registered a case against a man on the charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in Hasnia Colony.
